Miss Megan Arrives
Meet Megan Jane! She arrived very early on October 16, 2009 - 1:38 am early. She took lots of notes from big brother Graham apparently - deciding to come in week 38, kicking in contractions early afternoon on the 15th, sending us to the hospital early in the evening, and, although she was a little poky about actually showing her face, did finally arrive shortly after midnight (Graham was born at 12:36 am). She even LOOKS a lot like big brother. Graham says they "match." Most noticeable are those kissable, squeezable cheeks! Megan however has just a little dark hair while Graham had quite a bit of blonde upon arrival. Megan weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces and measured 20 inches long.
The Story Behind the Name
Just as Graham had a family connection with his middle name, "Lee" we hoped to honor family with Megan's name as well. We chose "Megan" as an honor to two grandmas - my Mamie (Grandma Mihalek), and Craig's Gramma Shantz. Mamie's maiden name was "May" and Gramma Shantz' middle name was "Mae" - for that reason we chose "Megan" (or MAY-gehn). Jane is my middle name, my mom's middle name, my great-great grandma's middle name, and the middle name of my mom's namesake on the other side of her family tree.
How does Graham like his Baby Sister?
He LOVES her. It didn't hurt that Megan "brought" him some John Deere tractors when she met him the first time. He wants to hold her, touch her, kiss her, share toys with her, and unintentionally smother her, squish her, and share his cold with her! It's very cute when he talks to her - he actually has a "baby voice" much as we adults do. The first few days were pretty crazy as his excited energy level hit an all time sustained high, but he has quickly settled back into normal routine, and is adjusting to baby sister being part of that routine fairly well.
